“Seeking for Story” is a film about how an archive embodies modes of encounter. The archive contains stories written by Ali Mirdrekvandi, a Luri peasant-labourer, and documents his unexpected friendship with John Hemming, a British lieutenant, during the Allied Occupation of Iran in WW2.
Now in the Bodleian Libraries, the archive promises both a curse and a gift. Those who try to master it only find failure. Through a meeting with a scholar, dates with a dancer, and a ritual of performance, a subject seeks to transform history into mystery.
